Duchy Parade Films 2010, UK Film Council, Channel 4 and Screen Yorkshire 2010. Directed by Simon Cartwright & Jessica Cope. Produced by David Bunting & Peter M Kershaw.
A young man, accompanied by his mysterious mechanical bear, visits an abandoned observatory to confront memories of his past and follow his Father on a journey into the unknown.
Producing The Astronomers Sun enabled me to combine my story, production, and teaching skills to support first time writer directors Simon and Jess, for Channel 4s talent development scheme. Liaising with three executive producers and a script editor, I shared producing duties with my co-producer Peter Kershaw, with a particular eye on story, editorial, scheduling, budgeting and festival strategy. I also animated the films drawn organic effects.
We are especially proud that as well as garnering global critical acclaim, The Astronomers Sun helped to launch several careers including Simon Cartwright (Manoman), Jessica Cope (Frankenweenie) and animator Steve Warne (Laika).
The films set is on permanent display at the National Media Museum, Bradford.
